BALL STATE SYMPHONY BAND
Comprised of approximately 65 undergraduate and graduate students who have attained an exceptional level of proficiency on their instruments, the Ball State University Symphony Band is the second auditioned ensemble in the BSU band program. The ensemble is primarily comprised of music majors, although talented students from additional academic disciplines are also represented within the ensemble. The group is committed to the highest musical standards and performs traditional repertoire as well as contemporary works written for the wind band medium.
The Symphony Band is designed to present the undergraduate or graduate student with the opportunity to enhance his/her personal musicianship and understanding of music within the context of a large ensemble. Whereas repertoire provides the artistic rationale for a performing ensemble, a wide array of music is selected, rehearsed, and performed on the basis of its quality and artistic merit. Thus, the student is engaged, on the highest level, with music that demands technical and artistic integrity.
The ensemble has been widely recognized for its musical excellence by nationally-respected composers and conductors. The ensemble was invited to perform at the 2012 and 2014 Indiana Music Education Association Conference in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
