Due to the two rounds of pouring rain in the afternoon, the clock for the third free practice session left on time at 6:00 p.m., but there was standing water on parts of the track, leaving the pit area exit open. The team swept water and blew dry the parking spot in front of the pit area garage, while the track robbers likewise removed small puddles of water in some places.
AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly was the first driver to sweep the water with full rain tires until the first 30 minutes passed and the pit lane opened. After the drivers ran the first few laps on full rain tires, they switched to half rain tires. In the end, with only 30 minutes of actual time, Leclerc topped the time sheets for the first time so far this weekend after making 1 minute and 57.782 seconds.
Verstappen was second, 0.526 seconds behind the Monaco driver, but he squeezed in between the two Ferrari drivers, leaving Carlos Sainz, who was initially in first place, to fall to third place. Fernando Alonso finished the session in fourth, a shade deeper than Red Bull's Sergio Perez, continuing Alpine's excellent competitiveness at Marina Bay, ahead of all the other mid-table teams. His teammate Esteban Ocon was seventh.
Both Aston Martin cars are in the top world, with Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel in sixth and eighth. Mercedes only had George Russell in the top world but only ninth, while McLaren, who had an average weekend, was barely tenth with Daniel Ricciardo. Lewis Hamilton was only 12th, still behind Haas' Kevin Magnussen.
The wet track made things more difficult for the drivers, with a number of drivers running off the track, including Nicolas Latifi, who will be leaving at the end of the season, who was in danger at Turns 13 and 6 respectively. Guthrie also went wide at Turn 10 at the end of the stage. Yuji Kakuta also had a scary moment, but brushed against the retaining wall. Haas' Mick Schumacher was investigated for a loose wheel.
