During the race, Williams driver Latifi and Zhou Guangyu collided and both retired from the race. The race committee ruled that Latifi was responsible for the collision and imposed a penalty of starting five places back in the Japanese Grand Prix main race on October 9.
Alpine driver Alonso, who was celebrating his 350th race in F1, also retired midway through the race due to engine failure. The race was a close one, with six of the 20 cars competing failing to finish.
